Born in 1969 in what was then Czechoslovakia, Rena Dumont fled to Germany in 1986, where she spent 9 months in the Königssee asylum centre. In spring 1987, she was granted political asylum and moved to Munich. Despite the language barrier, she passed the entrance examination for acting at the University of Music and Theatre in Hanover, which she completed four years later with a diploma. Since then, she has appeared in theatre, cinema and TV productions.
In 2015 and 2018, Dumont produced 2 short films "Die Mutprobe" (20 min) and "Hans im Pech" (30 min). Both were shown in competition at film festivals and won 31 main prizes. Her debut novel "Paradiessucher" was published by Hanser Verlag in 2013 and in 2019 she received screenplay funding from FFFBayern for the film adaptation. She has also published anthology articles with dtv since 2015. "Die Mühle", the name of her second novel, was published by Klak Verlag in 2022 (2023 Johann Steinbrenner Prize for German Fiction). "Die Mühle" is translated and published in Czech in 2024 ("Bíly lev" publishing house), followed by "Paradiessucher" the following year. Since 2018, Rena Dumont has been preparing acting enthusiasts for entrance exams to state drama schools, coaching young actors for film productions, leading acting courses for film agencies and drama schools and creating "About me" videos. In 2021, she founded "Freie Theater Company" (15 and 25 years) and "Drama Club" (10-15 years), where she works on a project-related basis. "Desire", the name of Dumont's last production, which is still being performed in the Mucca Halle today, is an ongoing production within the framework of cultural education. She is currently staging a stage adaptation of her first novel, in which she will take on one of the protagonist roles. Premiere 8 November 2024.
