Melita Jurisic was born in Croatia & emigrated with her family to Australia when she was 4 years old.
She has worked for leading & alternative theatre companies throughout Australia & received the Cladan Award (Sydney) for Nora in "A Doll's House", Green Room Awards (Melbourne) for “I Am A Miracle”,“Night on Bald Mountain”,"Danny & The Deep Blue Sea" and for her potrayal as a 100 year old Balinese noblewoman in "Bali Adat", nominations for “Picnic with Fatima”,"Mother Courage","King Lear","The Trojan Women",“John” & most recently for her role as the legendary Mae West in “Arbus & West”.
Her association with Barrie Kosky has led her to perform at Vienna's Schauspielhaus as the unanimously praised Medea, the title role of MACBETH and POPPEA in Monteverdi's Opera which was invited to the Sydney Opera house & to the Edinburgh festival. She has performed in Japan, Korea, Grand Theatre de la Ville (Luxembourg ), Komische Oper (Berlin), the Berliner Ensemble, Perchtoldsdorf sommerspiele (Austria), Donau festival (Krems), Landestheater Linz (Austria), Dortmund (Germany), Nitra festival (Slovakia). Ljubljana, Prague, Sibiu.
Film performances include "Murer: Anatomie eines Prozesses",“Mad Max Fury Road”,"The Sound of One Hand Clapping", "TheTale of Ruby Rose" which garnered her the International Critic's Prize for Best Actress at the Venice Film Festival, the Croatian films "Transatlantic" and “Kotlovina”.
She is also known for her potrayal of Dr. Magda in the television series "The Flying Doctors" and Dr. Eva in the ABC series “Something in the Air”.
She is a singer and recorded with Austrian musician/composers Peter Szely & Bernhard Loibner.
She is the singer/songwriter of the Viennese band METALYCÉE whose first album "IT IS NOT" was voted as one of the ten best Austrian albums of the decade.
