Mario Canedo

Mario Canedo is an actor, voice actor and screenwriter based in Vienna, Austria, with Spanish roots. He trained under Karlheinz Hackl and Erni Mangold before graduating from the Vienna Conservatory in 2013. Since then, he has appeared regularly in Austrian and German film and television productions, including Tatort, Schnell ermittelt, Der Schatten, SOKO Donau, and most recently Paradeisa (A Little Bit of Dying), directed by Marleen Valien.

As a child, he dreamed of becoming an archaeologist - today, he digs for stories instead. Alongside his acting career, he writes screenplays for live-action and animated films. Together with Ulrike Schweiger, he co-developed the feature screenplay Perlfisch. He is currently developing the animated feature Dachhase (Rabbit, They Said) with director and animator Santiago López Jover, who worked on the Academy Award-nominated animated films Song of the Sea and Late Afternoon, and art director José Luis Ágreda, who worked on the Academy Award-nominated animated feature Robot Dreams. In 2025/26, he was selected for the Mentoring Programme of the Austrian Film Academy.

Mario Canedo is a member of the Austrian Film Academy, the German Television Academy, and Drehbuchforum Wien. From 2015 to 2025, he served on the board of the Association of Austrian Screen Actors (VÖFS), was a member of the Austrian selection committee for the Academy Award for Best International Feature Film, and in 2015 was nominated as a TV-Media Shooting Star. In 2026, he co-founded the solidarity-based association dieSchauspieler*innen.
